Dr. Chan, a native of San Francisco, earned his undergraduate degree in Molecular and Cell Biology with an emphasis on Neurobiology from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Master’s in Biomedical Sciences from Barry University, Florida. He received his medical degree from the Medical College of Ohio. Dr. Chan completed his Neurosurgical residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago where he was also Instructor of Neuroanatomy for medical students. He served as a Mentor for the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine Tomorrow’s Physician Program where he was awarded the Alpha Omega Alpha Faculty Teaching Award in 2010. Dr. Chan has special interests in minimally invasive spinal surgery as well as complex surgery of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine and spinal fusions. He is experienced in using advanced techniques such as stereotactic frameless navigation for the treatment of brain and skull base tumors as well as minimally invasive endoscopic techniques to treat pituitary tumors. He is also experienced in surgical treatment of trigeminal neuralgia. Dr. Chan received his Board Certification in 2015.
Dr. Chan believes that educating his patients and their families on their conditions promotes the partnership that helps them make the best choices in the management of their health.
Jessica joined us in 2003 with a degree in Medical Administrative Assisting. She has worked in most areas of the practice and has extensive experience with medical records, billing and collections and helping keep the electronic and network functions up and running. She currently takes care of appointment and surgery scheduling for Dr. Chan's patients, and finds the healthcare field extremely rewarding. Jessica takes pride in being thorough, making sure each patient’s experience is as smooth and anxiety free as possible and she works tirelessly to make sure all the details for the patient encounter are handled in a professional, friendly manner. In her spare time she enjoys traveling with her husband, hiking, reality TV and playing with her kitties.
Dr. Hsieh (pronounced 'Shay') is a native of the Los Angeles area. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 1998 with a degree in Neurobiology, majoring in molecular cell biology with an emphasis in neurobiology and minoring in music. Following completion of his undergraduate degree, Dr. Hsieh received his M.D. at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tennessee, where he served as President of the Vanderbilt Honor Council. Dr. Hsieh's neurosurgical residency was completed within the NYU Hospital System at the Department of Neurosurgery at NYU Langone, followed by a year as Chief Resident at Bellevue Hospital.
In addition to his passion for medicine, Dr. Hsieh is an accomplished musician, playing both piano and violin. He credits his training as a classical musician with providing a unique perspective and approach to medicine in general, and more specifically to advanced and complex surgery. Dr. Hsieh spent six years in Atlanta in private practice before coming home to California. He received his Board Certification in 2013.
Dr. Hsieh takes a balanced approach to each patient's needs, and takes the time to truly listen to the outcome the patient hopes for. Where surgery is indicated, he specializes in the newest and most innovative of techniques.
Yee earned her certificate in Medical Assisting in 2003 and became state certified later that year. She earned an AA in Biology as well as one in Math and Science. She has worked in various surgical specialties, both front and back office assisting over the past several years.Yee has worked for CNS off and on over the past three years while working on her BS (yes, she enjoys going to school!). Yee completed her BS in Healthcare Administration in in 2015 and started working full time as Dr. Hsieh's assistant, handling all scheduling and patient care. Patients feel very comfortable working with Yee, since her competence clearly equals her compassion and care for our patients.When her three sons aren't occupying her time,Yee enjoys creating portraits of her family and friends in charcoal.
